Catalog Design | How To Reduce Your Catalog Design Costs

Lets face it catalogs are not cheap, so any way to reduce the amount of time and money it takes to design, photograph, and print a catalog is great for your business. In this article we've included a few tips to save you some cash on your next catalog.

Provide all necessary information

The easiest way to save money is to give your designer the tools they need to get the job done. For each product give your designer the photographs, the product text, item numbers, names, price etc. If they have all of that information it will save you a ton of time and headaches looking for everything that they need. If you do that and keep the layout consistent you will be making your designer’s life much easier and hold down your costs.

Keep it organized

Similar products should be grouped together to determine how much space you want to give to each product and category. The last thing you want to find out is that you've run out of pages and still have more products to add costing you time and increasing your printing costs.

Supporting Copy

Every catalog has product descriptions and information but good catalogs have support copy that sells a lifestyle, promotes a company image, and purchasing information. Once you have all of this information sit with your designer and tell him what you want and where you want it.

Create a product image reference

If you’re supplying the product images then you have to give your designer a reference of where each file belongs. A simple and effective way to do this is to add the image file name to the start of your product description eliminating any guess work and saving your designer time and you money.

Only give your designer the images you want to use

A really easy way to waste a ton of time and money is to send all of your images and expect your designer to sort through all of your images to find what you want in your catalog. You know your products better than anyone else. Sort through them on your own it will save you time and many headaches.
