Keyword selection is the core of every PPC, SEO, and SEM campaign. When choosing your keywords it's important to use terms that are very targeted. Generic keywords that are very broad are a quick way to waste your money advertising. Stay away from vanity keywords that relate to multiple industries and are extremely broad. The goal of this article is to provide you with some ideas on how to research for the right keywords and how to select the best keywords.
The first thing you need to do is find a good keyword research tool. There are lots of free ones but Google's Adwords Keyword Tool is probably the best place to start. Finding potential keywords is easy but finding the right ones will take some work. Input keywords that are related to your business or industry and start filtering through the results.

All of these keywords are related to my business and the products that I offer. Once I have this information I can determine where to put my time and money. Before you commit to anything make sure you understand how competitive each key term is. For instance, I wan't my company to be the number 1 search result for business cards, but I also know that it would cost me more money than I could make to be number 1. While most of your competition is focusing on those kind of keywords, you might go after matte business cards, business card templates, etc. Find keywords that get good traffic and have little competition, these are the keywords that you want for a PPC campaign.
